Out at Camp

Tom Devisscher (he/him) — Co-founder, Chair of the Board

OAC started the way the best ideas do: Tom wanted to get outside with his best friends, and the gear was the only thing standing in the way. What began as a solution to that specific problem grew into the organisation you are looking at now. He built it alongside Andrew, and the two of them have been figuring it out together ever since.

Tom is based in Ottawa and spends as much time as possible on Quebec crown land, where the portages are real, the lakes are quiet, and the nearest hardware store is a long drive back. He paddles, boat camps, hikes, and fills the in-between hours with small campsite improvements: a better system for the tarp, a rock moved to level the kitchen spot, a log rolled into a just-right bench height. Ask him about any of these projects and he will tell you more than you expected.

By day he is a software engineer. By every other available hour, he is outside with Mac, his Jack Russell terrier, who has strong opinions about campsites and limited patience for portaging.
