The Out at Camp Gear Library is a shared community resource that helps individuals get outside. These rules keep equipment available, cared for, and connected to the person who is actually borrowing it.
Who may borrow
- Each borrower must use their own OAC account.
- Reserve only the equipment you will personally use.
- Do not reserve equipment for friends, family members, or an entire group under one account.
- The person named on the reservation is responsible for the equipment they borrow and may not transfer it to another person.
Standard reservation limits
For reservations with overlapping dates, each borrower may reserve:
- 1 tent
- 1 sleeping pad
- 1 chair
- 1 stove
- 1 paddle board
- 8 items total across all equipment categories
These limits apply across all of a borrower’s reservations that overlap, not just within one reservation.
Groups and special events
The Gear Library’s standard reservation flow is for individual borrowing. If you are organizing a special event or have another need that does not fit the standard limits, contact OAC before reserving. Staff will review the request with you. If OAC approves a larger reservation, an OAC staff member will create it through the staff Tools area; larger reservations cannot be created through the storefront.
Availability and reservations
- A reservation is not a guarantee that every requested item will be available or suitable at pickup.
- OAC may adjust or cancel a reservation when equipment is unavailable, retired, unsafe, or reserved contrary to this policy.
- If your plans change, contact OAC as soon as possible so the equipment can be made available to another borrower.
Borrower responsibility
- Check the equipment when you receive it and tell OAC promptly about missing parts, damage, or safety concerns.
- Use equipment only for its intended purpose and follow any manufacturer or OAC instructions.
- Keep equipment in your care for the full borrowing period; do not lend or transfer it to someone else.
- Return equipment by the agreed date in reasonably clean and dry condition.
- Report loss, damage, or breakage promptly. Do not attempt repairs unless OAC staff asks you to.
Policy enforcement
OAC may decline, adjust, or cancel reservations that do not follow these rules. Repeated misuse, unsafe use, unreported damage, or failure to return equipment may result in borrowing privileges being limited or suspended. Staff will consider the circumstances and communicate directly with the borrower.
