Out at Camp

Volunteer with Out at Camp

Who volunteers with us

You don't need a résumé full of backcountry trips to get involved. We welcome people at every stage: first-timers who want to learn the ropes alongside experienced outdoors people, administrative organizers, and anyone who feels that pull to make queer outdoor space more real for more people. If you're 18 or older and you care about the work, there's a place for you.

What volunteers do

OAC runs on the people behind the scenes as much as the ones out on the water. Volunteer roles span trip leading and guiding, gear care and maintenance, event planning, marketing and outreach, and finance. Some roles are field-facing; others are fully remote-friendly. You can find the full list of current openings inside the application form.

Training and time commitment

For field-facing roles, we provide the training you need to go out confidently. Depending on your position, that can include First Aid, CPR, or wilderness skills courses. All volunteers are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles; if that's new to you, we'll get you up to speed.

Where OAC invests in your training, we ask for a minimum service commitment in return. That keeps our programs consistent and means the people who come to us for a trip or a rental are getting the same quality every time.

How to apply

  1. Fill in our online volunteer application form. It covers your availability, preferred roles, relevant experience, what brought you to OAC, and references.
  2. Our team reviews applications and reaches out to talk through your interests and where you'd fit best.
  3. Strong candidates are invited to a short interview or orientation session.
  4. Once accepted, you're matched to a role and set up with any training or support you need before you start.

Before you apply

Volunteers must be 18 or older at the time of application. That's it for hard requirements. Everything else is a conversation.
