About Out at Camp
What is Out at Camp?
Out at Camp is a non-profit organisation building community for 2SLGBTQ+ folks in the Canadian outdoors. We run camping trips, paddle days, hikes, and other outdoor events where the whole point is to be outside together, meet people, and maybe discover that you're more of a canoe person than you ever expected. All experience levels are genuinely welcome.
What types of activities do you offer?
Paddle days on calm water, overnight camping trips, day hikes, and the occasional backcountry adventure for those who want to push a little further. We mix it up across the season so there's usually something that fits your schedule and comfort level. Check the Upcoming Adventures page to see what's on.
Registering and Costs
How do I register for an activity?
Head to the Upcoming Adventures page, find the event that works for you, and follow the registration link. Each event listing includes all the details you need: location, skill level, what to bring, and cost.
How are activity costs determined?
We run everything at cost. The price you pay covers the actual expenses: equipment, site fees, permits, and supplies. When sponsors step in to offset costs, that savings gets passed along directly. Nobody is turning a profit here.
What happens to any leftover funds?
Any surplus from an event goes back into the organisation to fund future programming. It stays in the pot and keeps things running for the next group of people who want to get outside.
Participating
Who are your sponsors, and how can I become one?
We're supported by a range of generous sponsors who contribute financially or by donating gear. Their support is what lets us keep costs accessible. If your organisation is interested in sponsoring Out at Camp, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out directly and we can talk through what a partnership might look like.
Do you provide training for participants or volunteers?
Yes. We collaborate with organisations like Leave No Trace to make sure our volunteers are prepared and our events leave the land the way we found it. If you're newer to the outdoors, you'll be in good hands.
I've never done an outdoor activity before. Can I still come?
Yes, and we mean it. Our events are built for a range of experience levels, and you won't be the only first-timer. The whole idea is that nobody should have to figure out the outdoors alone, so come as you are.
